Fixed Skylights

Fixed skylights are designed to bring natural light into your home without the option to open. They’re a great choice for hallways, stairwells, and any space where daylight is the priority. VELUX fixed skylights are available in deck-mounted and curb-mounted configurations to suit a variety of roof types and pitches, and they come standard with VELUX’s high-performance LoE3 glass.

Venting Skylights

Venting or freshair skylights open and close to provide both natural light and ventilation. VELUX offers manual, electric, and solar-powered venting options, so there’s a fit for every homeowner’s preference and budget. Solar-powered models require no wiring and come with a remote control. All electric and solar-powered models include a built-in rain sensor that automatically closes the skylight when rain is detected — a feature Indiana homeowners genuinely appreciate.

Sun Tunnel Skylights

Sun Tunnels are tubular skylights that channel natural light through a reflective tube from your roof to your ceiling. They’re ideal for interior rooms, bathrooms, closets, and other spaces where a standard skylight isn’t practical. VELUX Sun Tunnels are available in rigid and flexible tube options to navigate attic obstructions. Current models also include a solar-powered LED night light that charges during the day and illuminates automatically after dark.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE

A great skylight product still needs a great installation. VELUX’s No Leak warranty is only activated when the skylight is installed with the correct VELUX flashing system — which means the installer has to know what they’re doing.
At Moss Roofing, we follow VELUX’s installation standards on every project. You get the full product protection, and you get the peace of mind that comes with knowing the job was done right.

What Makes VELUX the Best Skylight Brand on the Market?

The VELUX No Leak Promise

Leaking is the concern we hear most often from homeowners considering skylights — and it’s a fair one. VELUX takes this seriously with their patented three-layer water protection system and a 10-year No Leak installation warranty that covers both product and labor. The three layers work together: a pre-attached deck seal creates a weathertight connection between the skylight frame and the roof deck, an adhesive underlayment adds a secondary line of defense along the sides, and an engineered flashing system sheds water without relying on sealants that break down over time. Most skylight leaks come from improper installation, not product failure. When you have Moss Roofing install your VELUX skylight with the correct flashing kit, you’re protected.

Built for Energy Efficiency

Every VELUX skylight comes standard with LoE3-366 glass — a double-pane unit with three layers of low-emissivity coating. This glass blocks the vast majority of the sun’s UV rays while still letting in a strong amount of visible light. Argon gas fills the space between the panes for added insulation. The result is a skylight that performs well in Indiana’s cold winters and hot summers alike, keeping warmth in when you need it and limiting solar heat gain when you don’t. VELUX is an ENERGY STAR Partner, and the majority of their products carry ENERGY STAR certification. For homeowners who want to take energy performance further, the integrated solar-powered shades included in the new VELUX Skylight System significantly boost thermal efficiency and give you remote control over light levels year-round.

Award-Winning Innovation You Can Trust

VELUX doesn’t just rely on their long history, they continue to earn recognition for what they’re building today. Their Skylight System recently received a Good Housekeeping Home Renovation Award, a Pro Builder Most Valuable Product Award, and top honors in the Architecture MasterPrize Awards. VELUX has also earned an EcoVadis Platinum sustainability rating, placing them among the top-rated companies in the world for environmental and social responsibility. These aren’t just accolades, they’re a signal that VELUX takes their role seriously and continues to raise the bar. When you choose VELUX, you’re choosing a product from a company that’s invested in getting better every year.

VELUX Skylight FAQ

VELUX skylights are built to last 20 to 30 years with proper installation and routine maintenance. VELUX also maintains replacement parts for models up to 30 years old, so repairs are possible well into the skylight’s lifespan. The best time to replace a skylight is when you’re also replacing your roof, so all warranties align and you start fresh with current glass technology.

VELUX offers a 20-year warranty on the glass, a 10-year warranty on the complete product, a 10-year, No Leak installation warranty covering both product and labor, a 10-year hail breakage warranty, and a 5-year warranty on blinds, shades, and controls. It’s the strongest warranty package in the skylight industry, and it’s one of the primary reasons we stand behind VELUX on every installation.

No. VELUX skylights are designed to be low-maintenance. Cleaning the glass with water and a soft cloth twice a year and keeping the flashing area free of debris is all that’s typically needed. VELUX’s Neat® glass coating helps the exterior surface self-clean by causing water to sheet off and organic matter to break down. Solar-powered and electric models with rain sensors require very little intervention day-to-day.

That’s correct. VELUX solar-powered skylights have a small solar panel built into the frame that charges an internal battery. The battery powers the motor that opens and closes the skylight, as well as any integrated shades. No electrician is required, which simplifies installation and keeps costs down.

VELUX offers mounting options — deck-mounted, curb-mounted, and self-flashing — that cover most residential roof types, including shingle, metal, tile, and flat or low-slope roofs. Roof pitch, framing, and ceiling structure all play a role in the right product selection. Our team will assess your home and identify the best option for your specific situation.
